The Liebherr family business was started in 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The business first gained fame from its mobile tower crane that was noted for its ease of assembly and affordability. It was upon this creation that the company's foundation flourished under. Now, Liebherr has grown to become among the world's leading manufacturers of construction machinery. The business has also gained the reputation of being the accredited supplier of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in different fields. The business has presently become a "Group" working in each and every continent with over 130 companies and more than 35,000 employees all over the world.
In order to ensure a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate separately. This specific set up allows the business the ability to stay in tune with worldwide competition and be flexible to market signals. Furthermore, having so many individual company units also ensures customer proximity and keeps customer service operating at an optimum level.
Liebherr has instituted the divisional control companies to be able to deal with the management operations of production and sales for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group now has 10 different product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the holding company of the Liebherr Group. They are located within Bulle, Switzerland and are completely owned by the Liebherr family members. At present, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr. Since 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by 3rd generation family members like: Patricia Ruf, Stefanie Wohlfarth, Jan Liebherr and Sophie Albrecht. These members of the family have been working together to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all around the world.
Hans Liebherr began to build his company in 1949, in a small town known as Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, presently supports among Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They could average an annual output of about 2800 wheeled excavators and employ over 1400 people in that particular workforce.
