History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was first established by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during 1937, when the Salzgitter Group acquired a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. In 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the following years.
