How to Charge a Scissor Lift
There is a great convenience when utilizing a scissor lift, since the ease of working and the lift basket's security gives peace of mind when trying to perform tasks which could have otherwise needed utilizing the rung of a ladder. The safety risks involved with this equipment make it the best choice for performing jobs from heights.
Nearly all scissor lifts are powered electrically by batteries that have been mounted directly onto the machinery. These batteries would need to be charged following a long shift or after sitting for extended periods without use. It is an easy task to charge the batteries. This could be carried out without any specialized tools or equipment and needs no heavy labor.
So as to prepare the scissor lift for charging, park the machine next to an electrical outlet. Make sure you are doing this in a well-ventilated place. Then, in order to prevent another operator from driving away with the lift plugged in, press the emergency shut-off switch. The emergency shut off switch is the large red button situated near the charger or the control box, inside the lift basket. Find the battery charger on the base of the lift on the right side. Often, older units would have the charger mounted on the rear of the lift.
The AC extension cord must next be plugged into the charger. Be sure to charge in a well ventilated place and plug the cord into an electrical outlet. So as to prevent accidental damage from being run over, the length of the electrical cord on the battery charger is intentionally short. This is because if any excess length were to drop out of the battery charger storage area while in use, extreme danger could potentially happen.
