The forklift is a material handling device used to raise and move loads from one place to another. Every part of a forklift has a specific function. Different parts could be used to transport the load vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lift and lower the load. There are different types of masts for lifting loads to various heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is situated in the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the back of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is located in the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all located in the cab.
Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the biggest parts of the forklift, including the counterweights, that are situated at the rear so as to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
